Pennywell Pumpkin Patch

By Emma

We were very lucky to spend a recent Sunday enjoying this year’s Pumpkin Patch at Pennywell Farm. It is a fantastic day out with little ones and caters brilliantly for all ages. So, grab your wellies, you autumn spirit of adventure, and your camera! There are lots of lovely photo opportunities and, needless to say, pumpkins galore.

The Pumpkin Patch

Pennywell’s pumpkin patch is a great addition to their normal offering, and really enhances a day out there at this time of year. As you enter through the pumpkin arch, you are met with the lovely sight of pumpkins all over the floor for the children to explore. There are mini wheelbarrows for them to run and around with and collect their favourites.

There are also pumpkin themed games to play outdoors (noughts and crosses with different coloured pumpkins was a huge hit with our little wild ones), an undercover area for sitting and listening to live music, lots of fab photo opportunities, a bar, hot food and an opportunity to toast marshmallows (for a small extra cost).

You can purchase pumpkins too, at a range of costs, dependent on size. There’re loads on offer and a whole array of sizes and colours, which we loved!

A new activity every 30 minutes

Of course, the regular activities available at Pennywell provide an amazing and totally full day out, even without the pumpkins! We love that there is something new on every half an hour. It means you can pick and choose what suits your family, and the little ones never get bored! Our favourites have to be piggy cuddles, bottle feeding, the big show and pond dipping (even if I do have to keep shouting on repeat “please be careful, it might be slippery. You’re too close!!!!)

The rides are a great addition too. I actually think Ralph would just ride the red rocket on repeat all day! I like that they add the theming to their rides too, so there were some halloween items to look out for on the tractor and train rides.

Food and Drink

I think the food and drink on offer at Pennywell has improved massively over recent years. The coffee is good, and we loved the pumpkin lattes! The food cabins offer really nice local pasties, sausage rolls and cakes, with good picnic options for children too. There are absolutely loads of places to picnic too so you can easily take your own food with you.

As part of the pumpkin patch the year, there is also a hot food option that you can enjoy whilst the little ones pick their pumpkins! We loved the loaded fries. There was also a very cute bar selling a range of alcoholic drinks near the pumpkin patch, for an autumn treat.

Ralphs summary of the day: “Best day ever. I loved piggy cuddles and the red rocket, and my most favourite thing was getting my white pumpkin”.

A success all round I’d say?!

We try to travel and spend as much time outdoors as we can with our two little ones, and are passionate about exploring new places with them. Living in Devon provides lots of opportunity to explore, and we are keen to share tips and experiences of travel, days out and good eats. We are a bit obsessed with photography too so will probably have a few of those to share along the way...
